The bear brotherhood flag features a paw in the top-left corner and seven stripes, that represent the various shades of bear fur (not, as popular myth dictates, hair colour or skin colour – although it was designed to be inclusive).
The flag was designed in 1995 by Craig Byrnes, a ‘bear’ himself. He had designed a senior project on bear culture as part of his undergraduate degree in psychology, and thought the design would be fitting.
